The following text is ai-0.

Why do we need an ai-score?

With AI becoming mainstream, many people want to know if the text they’re reading was written by a human, or generated by an AI.

Human-written and AI-generated texts both have pros and cons. Just like handmade ceramics versus manufactured tableware.

Sometimes, you crave for the beauty of a Japanese handcrafted teacup. Other times, you need a hundred Ikea glasses because you invited all your friends to your birthday.

Likewise, sometimes you need an authentic voice, filled with flaws and emotion. And sometimes, you prefer a robotic message that always meet spec.

The ai-score exists to help readers wandering “Was this written by a human or generated by an AI?”

The 6 items of the ai-score

The ai-score goes from ai-0 to ai-5, from full-human to full-AI. The six items are the following;

  • ai-0: This text was created by a human, without any AI intervention.
  • ai-1: This text was created by a human and lightly edited by an AI.
  • ai-2: This text was created by a human and heavily edited by an AI.
  • ai-3: This text was generated by an AI and heavily edited by a human.
  • ai-4: This text was generated by an AI and lightly edited by a human.
  • ai-5: This text was generated by an AI, without any human intervention.

FAQ

Q: How to use the ai-score?

A: Simply add ai-x at the beginning or the end of your content. Now your readers know if it was written, generated, or something in between.

Q: How can I know if an ai-score reflects the truth?

A: All pre-2022 content can be considered ai-0. After that, you will have to trust the content producer.

Q: Who’s gonna mention their texts are ai-5 anyway?

A: Short answer: user interfaces. Example: a company using a chatbot on its website can add an ai-5 mention. This way, its customers know their talking to an AI, not a human.

Other initiative

Shortly after writing this article, I discovered another initiative: Authorship Indicators: A Manifesto. The name of the initiative isn’t very inspired, but their scale is very complete, ranging from 0 to 9:

They also include nice donut charts to illustrate each item on the scale. It’s funny to see how close the name of our scales are: ai-number vs AI:number. The idea must have been floating in the noosphere.

Anyway, I’m keeping my score, because we never have enough standards…
